Hello Windows Insiders, we’re excited to release the first Windows 11 Insider Preview on the Dev Channel! As we finalize the product in the coming months, we’ll work with you to validate the experience. You’ll be able to try out many, but not all, of the new features we showed off last week in this early preview. We’ll be bringing more features like Microsoft Teams Chat and Android apps to the Microsoft Store in the coming months as they’re ready for you – we’re just starting this journey together! Changes and Improvements – – [General] Windows 11 is moving from Windows Speech Recognition (WSR) to voice access. WSR is rejected. When WSR opens, a dialog box will pop up directing you to try voice access, and they’ve also added a banner under Settings > Accessibility > Talk like them. Voice Access, our new assistive technology in Windows 11, uses on-device speech recognition to enable control of your PC and text creation without an Internet connection. It will support multiple languages and custom commands in a future update (these features are now available for Windows Insiders to try out in the beta channel, as noted above). They recommend WSR users to try and start using voice access today. A dialog box that prompts you to try voice access when you open Windows Speech Recognition. – [Nearby Sharing] They introduce the ability to quickly give your device a more convenient name to identify sharing to and from with nearby sharing in Settings > System > Share nearby. Give your device a more convenient name to identify sharing to and from with nearby sharing. – [Narrator] Narrator users can now use voice access to open apps, dictate text, and interact with screen elements using their voice. Narrator users can use voice access to give Narrator commands with their voice. For example, “speak faster”, “read the next line”, etc. To get started, search for “voice access” in Windows search and set it up.
